About

I’m a writer, editor and photographer based in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

A lifelong resident of the Pioneer Valley, I had a long career in journalism—mostly as an assistant managing editor at The Republican, where I managed breaking and investigative reporting, developed multimedia approaches for presenting the news online, created data visualizations, and shot photos and videos. I also did a stint as managing editor at the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

Now I work in corporate communications.

My photographs have been displayed at the Hosmer Gallery at Forbes Library in Northampton, Holyoke’s Wistariahurst Museum, the Vermont Center for Photography in Brattleboro, and during the Solid Sound Festival at MASS MoCA in North Adams. My documentary work has focused on the intersection of economics and community, brought to life in the solo exhibitions “Full Employment: Major Employers in the Pioner Valley” and “Massachusetts Green: Building Holyoke’s High Performance Computing Center.”

My website The Birds Downtown chronicles my love of birding in the neighborhoods around my former apartment in downtown Holyoke.

At the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, I majored in English and Economics. You can blame John Stifler‘s class “Economics and the Literary Imagination” for that.

I play guitar in a several indie rock and power pop bands.
